Did you know: Not everything in the Bible is meant to be read exactly the same way? A proverb isn't a promise. A metaphor isn't meant to be taken literally. A historical account may be arranged around a theme rather than chronology. And when you're reading someone else's letter, you need to understand what was happening with the original audience.

So, in this fourteenth episode of our Unlocking the Bible series, we unlock the Bible's major genres: from history and poetry to wisdom literature, letters, law, parables, apocalyptic writing, genealogies, and sermons. We'll look at what makes each genre unique, some of the common mistakes we make when reading them, and how understanding genre can help us hear the message the biblical authors intended to communicate.
